The Monospace is a minimalist CSS template featuring a large monospace font, styled tables/code/links, ASCII art support and responsive media (images scale, tables scroll on mobile).

CSS: 39 total declarations: 10 CSS 3 and 29 that are CSS 2.1 or less.

Browser support: No mainstream rendering engine released since 2013 will have any issues with this CSS.

Niche Browsers: Pale Moon (Goanna) offers excellent support. Netsurf (75ch width support is weak). Dillo (3.3.0, 26apr2026) renders well (some minor issues). "links2 -g" (graphics mode) displays all content (disregards the CSS). Terminal browsers: Chawan excels; links/links2, w3m and elinks offer great text-based renders; Lynx fails badly on tables.

Bold presses on with its defense of the classic ASCII realm aided by underline, superscript, strikethrough, italics, subscript and small - living warriors created by HTML's 7-bit magic of <opening> and <closing> angle brackets.

But... as the battle rages on, it begins to favor the invaders and their army of insidious —em-dashes—, misshapen “quotes” and deadly …ellipses…

Overwhelmed by the sheer number of unicode characters, a swarm of nearly 160,000 against a mere 128, a desperate italics is forced to seek reinforcements via a fancy looking stylized link. The help arrives in the form of a short bare-metal code and the most urgent of instructions:
